Cary, N.C. — Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden concluded play at the Atlantic Tire Championships at the Cary Tennis Park Thursday afternoon. The Wolfpack doubles pair fell 6-4, 6-1 to Marcelo Arevalo and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela in the opening round of doubles competition.
After earning a wild card into the main draw, Galarneau and Ogden faced a tough opponent in Arevalo and Reyes-Varela. The duo earned back-to-back titles at ATP Challenger events the last two weekends, winning both the Milo Open in Bogota, Colombia and the Challenger En Los Andes in Quito, Ecuador.
Galarneau and Ogden held their own against the two professionals. The Wolfpack tandem forced three breaks and saw four games in the first set go to deciding points. In the second set, the pair's single game came off of a strong service game from Ogden during which three of his serves went unreturned.
The two, ranked No. 14 in the preseason ITA rankings, will turn their attention to the fall ITA season, which is set to begin this weekend with the Duke James Bonk Invite at the Cary Tennis Park.
