CHARLESTON MAKES HISTORY
True freshman Cravont Charleston made history at the 2017 ACC Outdoor championships. The rookie from Charlotte was the ACC Champion in the 100 meters, the 200 meters and ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay.
Â
Charleston became only the fifth sprinter in Wolfpack history to earn ACC titles in the 100 and 200 meters and the first in 21 years (Alvis Whitted in 1996). He is the first freshman in school history to do so.
Â
You'd have to go back another decade to find the last time a Pack runner won the ACC outdoor titles in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay. Danny Peebles (for more info on Danny, see below) won all three in 1987 and in 1988.
Â
Charleston was named the track Most Valuable Performer from the meet and posted the second-fastest mark in school history in the 100m (10.07w) and the 7th fastest in the 200m (20.76).
Â

SPEED LEGACY
The name "Peebles" was already an important one in Wolfpack Track & Field history, but after last weekend, that name is legendary.
Â
Danny Peebles, who has been elected to the NC State Athletic Hall of Fame, won nine ACC titles during his Wolfpack career and was a nine-time All-American while also starring with the NC State football squad.
Â
More than three decades after Danny Peebles first stepped on the track wearing red and white, his son Dylan Peebles is now an ACC Champion for NC State. The younger Peebles ran the anchor leg for the Pack's winning 4x100 meter relay squad at the ACC meet in Atlanta, posting the fifth-best time in school history (Danny was on the relay squads that rank second and fourth- in the Wolfpack record books).
Â
Dylan, a true freshman, also won All-ACC honors with a second-place finish in the 200 meters, posting the eighth-fastest mark in school history (20.87).

Â
DOUBLE DISTANCE LEGACY
Peebles is not the only legacy member of the Wolfpack Track Team who excelled in Atlanta. Sophomore Elly Henes earned All-ACC honors in the 5000 meters, finishing sixth. She ranks 16th on the regional qualifying list for that event.
Â
But Henes' success in the 5000 meters shouldn't be a surprise – she comes by it naturally. Her mother, the former Laurie Gomez, won five All-America honors in the event (three indoor and two outdoor). Her father, Bob Henes, was a three-time All-Amerian in the 5000 meters during his career with the Wolfpack.
Â
Laurie Henes is now the Associate Head Coach for the Wolfpack Track & Field program.

Â
BIG WEEKEND FOR PARSONS
Unfortunately, senior Sam Parsons wasn't able to attend NC State's graduation ceremonies on Saturday in Raleigh. Instead, he was in Atlanta working his way to first-team All-ACC honors.
Â
Parsons finished second in the men's 5000 meters with the 16th-fastest mark in the east region this year – an outdoor PR of 13?54.62.
Â
Parsons celebrated his two weekend accomplishments by wearing his cap and gown to the awards stand.

Â
OH MOYE, OH MOYE
Senior Megan Moye added to her list of ACC accolades at the 2017 outdoor championships, earning first-team All-ACC honors by finishing third in the 1500m. The Moseley, Va., native was the 2016 champion in the event and holds the school record with a 4:11.91.
Â
Moye has clocked the seventh-fastest time in the east region this season in the 1500m.
Â

RIVERS AMONG ALL-TIME BEST
Junior Grant Rivers posted a new personal best in the decathlon at the ACC Championships, finishing fifth overall to earn second-team all-conference honors. His 6,832 point tally is the sixth-best mark in school history.
Â

KOON GOES THE DISTANCE
RS – sophomore Rachel Koon has run three races during the 2017 outdoor campaign. In two of those races, she earned All-ACC honors.
Â
Koon was the runner-up in the 10,000m in Atlanta, crossing the line at 34:35.01 – the No. 39 time on the east region list. She earned first-team all-conference accolades for that performance.
Â
She finished fifth in the 5000 meters to earn second-team All-ACC honors, the 15th-best time in the region.
