Danny Peebles enters his second season as a volunteer assistant for the Wolfpack track and field teams. A standout two-sport athlete at NC State, Peebles enjoyed success as member of both the Wolfpack track team and football team.
He was voted the H.C. Kennett Award winner as NC State's Most Valuable Athlete his senior year, while also earning the distinction of ACC Track and Field Athlete of the Year his junior and senior seasons. Moreover, Peebles was the ACC Champion in the 100m, 200m, long jump and 4X100m relay, as well as the ACC indoor champion in the 55m and long jump during his final two years at State. In 2002 he was voted to the ACC 50th Anniversary track team, made up of the 50 best track athletes in the history of the ACC.
As a wide receiver for the Wolfpack football team, Peebles enjoyed great success and was ultimately selected in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He played professionally for both Tampa Bay and the Cleveland Browns, before suffering a fractured vertebra which briefly paralyzed him from the neck down and ended his NFL career.
Following football, Peebles has coached USATF Youth Track and Field for several years with many of his sprinters and relay teams becoming National Champions.
Peebles was inducted into the Class of 2014 NC State Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements as a dual athlete. He is one of 30 athletes that have been nominated and chosen for this honor.
Peebles earned both an accounting and business management degree from North Carolina State University. He has four children Damiya, Danny IV, Dylan and Jada with his wife Monique, who was a 1990 graduate of NC State University.
