
Pack Drops Series Finale With Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The NC State softball team concluded its series at Boston College on Sunday afternoon at Shea Field, dropping a late 7-6 decision.
The Wolfpack moves to 17-34 (10-11 ACC) and the Eagles improve to 29-19 (13-7 ACC) on the season. Despite the 2-1 series loss, NC State has clinched a spot in the 2017 ACC Championship, which will be held May 11-13 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Game Rewind
-The Pack struck first in the contest as Cheyenne Balzer put the Pack on the board in the second inning with a two-run blast to left field after Haylee Kobziak reached first base on an error.
-The Eagles answered in the bottom frame with a run, as Lexi DiEmmanuele led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly to center field.
-NC State extended its lead to 4-1 in the third inning with Alyssa Compton's 2-RBI double down the left field line, scoring Tyler Ross and Jade Caraway from second and third. They led off with a walk and infield single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Molly Hutchison.
-BC threatened in the bottom half with an outfield single and double to left field on one out, but an unassisted double play by Molly Martin at third base ended the side.
-The Pack tacked on two more runs in the fourth on two outfield singles. Pinch runner Geena Autry scored the first one from second on Ross's single to center field, advancing to third and then crossing home plate on a BC error. Martin scored the other from second base on Caraway's line drive up the middle after reaching on an error.
-BC trimmed its deficit to four on an attempted double steal. DiEmmanuele scored from third after getting on base with a one-out single up the middle. She stole second and an outfield single moved her up to third.
-The Eagles drove in three more runs in the fifth with a two-run homer to right center and solo shot to right field.
-Both squads were kept at bay in the sixth, and in the bottom of seventh a walk-off two-run blast to right center ended the game.
Inside The Box Score
-Caraway led the team with a 3-for-4 performance with one RBI and a run, while Balzer was 2-for-3 and Compton, Martin and Ross each tallied a hit.
-Peyton Silverman started in the circle, and was relieved by Brittany Nimmo in the fifth re-entered two-thirds of the way through the inning.
On Deck
NC State will conclude its regular season next weekend when it hosts Louisville for a three-game series. The teams will play Friday and Saturday at 5 p.m., and meet in the finale Sunday at 12 p.m. at Dail Stadium. All three games will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra.
