
Wolfpack Headed to Nation's Oldest Meet: The Penn Relays

Raleigh, NC – The NC State track and field team heads to Philadelphia this weekend to compete in the legendary Penn Relays.
Â
The Penn Relays:
The oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, the Penn Relays Carnival has hosted annually since April 21, 1895 by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. More athletes run in the Penn Relays than in any other track and field meet in the world, as the event regularly boasts a field of more than 15,000 participants from high schools, colleges, and track clubs throughout North America and abroad. Attendance at the meet typically tops 100,000 over the final days.

The Throws
RS-Senior Alyssa Dunn will compete on Thursday in the discus and shot put after top 10 finishes in both of those events in each of her last three meets. Lauren Evans, a sophomore who has won the hammer competition at three meets in 2017, will participate that event as well as the shot put.

The women's discus competition begins at 9 a.m., while the shot put gets underway at 12:45 p.m. and the hammer throw starts at 2:30 p.m.

The men's throwing events will take place on Friday, with RS-Junior Joshua Davis starting the day in the College discus at 9 a.m. On Saturday afternoon, Davis, who has posted the nation's 25th-best mark in the hammer throw, will compete in the Championship division of that event.

The Jumps
The women's long jump competition begins at 4 p.m. on Thursday and the Pack will be represented by junior Javonne Antoine and senior Amara Bell, who finished sixth in that event last week at the Virginia Challenge.

On Friday, the duo will compete in the triple jump beginning at 11 a.m. Antoine has won the triple jump at two meets this season, finishing no lower than fourth in any competition and boasts the nation's No. 26 mark in the event.

On Friday at 10 a.m., sophomore Christopher Garrick and freshman JT Reid will compete in the men's high jump.  Garrick won the HJ at last week's Virginia Challenge and earlier this season at the Carolina Relays, while Reid has finished no lower than fifth all season in the event. Garrick currently sits at No. 47 in the national high jump standings.

The Steeplechase
NC State will be represented on the men's and women's side in the steeplechase.

At 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, RS-Senior Aubrey Myjer will compete on the men's side, while at 8:10 p.m. Rachel Barolomeo and Bethany Neeley will run in the women's competition.

The Distance Events
On Thursdays, RS – Freshman Elly Henes will compete in the women's 3,000m at 8:35 p.m., while sophomore Philip Hall will run in the men's 5,000m at 9:25 p.m.

On Saturday, senior Sam Parsons will compete in the Olympic Development mile.

The Relays
The relay events always take center stage at the Penn Relays, and Cravont Charleston, Dylan Peebles, Sam Krehnbrink and Abdur Rahmaan Kelly will represent the Wolfpack in the 4x100 at 12:35 p.m. on Friday.

That same quartet will run the sprint medley relay on Friday evening at 6:50 p.m.

Freshman Cravont Charleston, who has posted the nation's No. 43 time in the 100m this season, will run that event at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while sophomore Gabriele Cunningham will compete in the 100m and 100mhurdles later in the afternoon.

Noting the Pack
Erika Kemp was named the ACC Performer of the Week for the third time this season after a win in the 5,000m at the Virginia Challenge last weekend. The senior crossed the finish line in 15:41.23 to set the NCAA's fourth-fastest time this season. The time was a 16-second PR and moved her past Julie Shea to second place on NC State's 5,000m list – just eight seconds from Betty Springs' school record of 15:33.43.
