SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The No. 35 women's tennis team upset No. 26 Notre Dame in a narrow 4-3 victory at the Courtney Tennis Center on Friday night. The win moves the Wolfpack to an overall record of 13-7 (2-5 ACC) while the Fighting Irish fall to a 14-3 (5-2 ACC) record.
"Notre Dame has been doing well this year and we knew coming in it was going to be a tough match," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "The conditions were far from perfect. I think we handled it particularly well the first hour or two of the match. It was extremely blustery and I wouldn't exactly say that it was an advantage, but we were able to play the better of the advantage and get through doubles and get out to the lead. And it was enough of a lead that we were able to find our way to the end.
"We're still a little shaky here and there—we need to do a better job of getting through some of those second sets or splitting sets in matches. But overall, great road win for us and we're looking forward to playing Wake Forest on Sunday."
