ST. LOUIS, MO. – Redshirt-sophomore Sean Fausz (125 pounds) and junior Kevin Jack (141) both went 2-0 in the first day of the 2017 NCAA Championships and have advanced to the quarterfinals. In all, six of the Pack's 10 NCAA Qualifiers have advanced to the second day of action, as four more are alive in the consolation brackets.

Action resumes at 11 AM (ET) tomorrow starting with the quarterfinals then two rounds of the consolation brackets.

Round of 16 Recap
The Pack started the day's second session with four in the Round of 16.

R-So. Sean Fausz was the first to punch his ticket into the quarterfinals. After a pin in his first round bout, #12 seeded Fausz downed #5 seed Tim Lambert of Nebraska 3-1 to advance to the quarters. Fausz took a couple of shots in the first, and on his third attempt he landed the takedown to go up 2-0 after the opening period. An escape point to start the second pushed the lead to 3-0. Lambert would get his own escape point to start the third, but could not answer Fausz's first period takedown.
Jr. Kevin Jack also picked up a second win on the day to advance to the quarterfinals. The #2 seed at 141 pounds started the day with a 10-0 major decision, and followed that win up with a 4-0 defeat of #15 seed Tyler Smith of Bucknell in the night session. Jack got a late takedown in the first period, and used a second period escape point and a stall point to close out the victory. In his two matches today, Jack won by a combined 14-0.
R-Jr. Michael Macchiavello got an OT win in his first match at his first NCAAs, but fell in the night session in the Round of 16. #10 seed Machiavello fell to Nebraska's #7 seed T.J. Dudley 6-1. Dudley scored a takedown in the first, and added a two-point near fall to take a 4-0 lead after the first. After an exchange of escape points, Dudley added the ride time point for the decision.

R-Sr. Mike Kosoy posted an upset in the first session over the #13 seeded Jensen of Nebraska, 5-2, but fell in the Round of 16 in the night session. Kosoy fell to #4 seed Jacob Kasper of Duke 2-0. After a scoreless first, Kasper got the escape point then rode Kosoy the entire third period to add on the ride time point.

Consolation Bracket Recap
R-So. Jamal Morris stayed alive to advance to tomorrow. After an upset loss in the first session, Morris downed Billy Rappo of Maryland 5-4 to pick up the win in the night session. Morris scored a first period takedown and another in the third, sandwhiched around two minutes of ride time in the second to score the win.

R-Jr. Brian Hamann also came back in the night session with a win after an earlier loss. Hamann defeated Stanford's Keaton Subjeck in overtime, 5-2. Tied 2-2, Hamann got the escape and then added the bout's lone takedown to advance to action tomorrow.
