ST. LOUIS, MO. – Junior Kevin Jack became the ninth wrestler in NC State history to earn All-American honors for a second time, as he advanced to the consolation semifinals at the 2017 NCAA Championships Friday night. Jack won both of his matches in Session 4, and will return to action tomorrow morning to determine his final placement, wrestling to place in either the third or fifth place match.

Session 4 – Blood Round Results

Jack, the #2 seed at 141 pounds, defeated Penn State's Jimmy Gulibon 6-4 in his first match of the night. Jack struck first, and after a Gulibon escape, Gulibon scored his own takedown late in the opening period and held a 3-2 lead after the first. Jack evened it with an escape in the third, and it was tied 3-3 going into the final period. After a neutral start, Jack scored the winning takedown with 1:25 left. Gulibon escaped, but Jack clinched the ride time point for the final margin.

Jack later came back and advanced to the consolation semifinals with a 4-1 win over #14 seed Thomas Thorn of Minnesota. After a scoreless first, Thorn scored the first point after an escape. Jack got his takedown in the second period, and an escape and ride time point coming in the third closed out the win.

#2 seed Kevin Jack (33-2) vs. #5 seed Anthony Ashnault (30-4)

R-So. Sean Fausz made the NCAA Championships for the second straight year, and this year he fell one win shy of earning All-American honors after entering as the #12 seed and advancing to the quarterfinals. Fausz fell in the night session to #9 seed Sean Russell of Edinboro 8-2 to end his run. After a scoreless first, the two exchanged escapes and it was even at 1-1 early in the third. Russell scored a pair of takedowns and got a two point near fall, and added the ride time point, to come out on top.

R-Jr. Michael Macchiavello was in his first NCAA Championships, and fell one win shy of All-American honors. Macchiavello fell to #12 seed Drew Foster of Northern Iowa 2-1. After a scoreless first, Macchiavello started the scoring with an escape, but Foster got the lone takedown of the bout at the end of the second period. Foster tacked on an escape point in the third for the final margin.
