Pack Softball Earns 8-7 Win Over Syracuse, Takes First ACC Series Of Season

RALEIGH - Highlighted by a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh by Macauley Prickett, the NC State softball team defeated Syracuse, 8-7, on Saturday afternoon at Dail Stadium to take its first ACC series on the season
The Wolfpack improves to 8-16 (2-1 ACC) on the season, while the Orange fall to 13-8 (1-2 ACC).
Game Rewind
-Molly Hutchison gave NC State an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as she hit a solo home run to center field.
-In the third inning Syracuse's Sydney O'Hara homered to right center to tie the game, and Faith Cain followed with a two-run home run to give the Orange a 3-1 advantage.
-NC State answered in the bottom of the frame, knotting the contest with Alyssa Compton's 2-RBI single to center field. Tyler Ross started the scoring play after drawing a leadoff walk and stealing second, then Haylee Kobziak singled to left field and stole second.
-The Pack plated four more runs in the fourth inning. Ross hit a 2-RBI single after Molly Martin singled to right field and Prickett doubled to right center. Ross and Jade Caraway were then brought across home plate on Compton's single to the shortstop.
-In the sixth inning Syracuse cut the deficit to 7-6. Rachel Burkhardt singled to center field with runners on first and third, and Toni Martin scored on an error with the bases loaded. Bryce Holmgren was then walked on loaded bases to allow Burkhardt to score.
-The Orange tied the game in the top of the seventh as Alicia Hansen scored from third base on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Dossett.
-In the bottom of the frame with two outs on the board, Prickett hit a walk-off double down the left field line to bring pinch runner Geena Autry home from third base.
-Peyton Silverman earned her third-straight win after pitching her third complete game of the week.
-Compton led the team in batting with three hits in her four trips to the plate, while Prickett was 2-for-4 in the game.
-Ross tallied three stolen bases in the game, giving her 14 on the season which also ties the second-highest mark in a single game for the left fielder. She recorded three stolen bases in the Pack's win over George Mason on Tuesday.
Up Next
NC State will return to action Wednesday to face ECU on the road for its third midweek game of the season. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at the ECU Softball Stadium.
