NC State Wins Back-to-Back Events on Day Three of #ACCMSD

RESULTS
ATLANTA--The NC State swimming and diving team won back-to-back individual events during the third day of the ACC Championships on Wednesday night as Ryan Held won the 100 butterfly and Soeren Dahl won the 200 freestyle. In total, the Wolfpack has won eight of 14 events contested so far.Â
Heading into the final day of competition, NC State continues to control the lead with 855.5 points, Louisville remains in second with 778.5 points and Notre Dame has moved into third place with 614 points.Â
ButterflyÂ
In the 100 butterfly, the Wolfpack placed two among the top-three. Held won his second event of the championships, breaking the conference, meet and school records with a time of 44.79, earning an NCAA "A" cut. His performance marks the first time a swimmer from the ACC has broken the :45 second barrier in the event. Andreas Vazaios earned his second top-three finish of the week, taking third in 45.81.

James Bretscher rounded out the showing, finishing in a tie for 20th with a time of 47.54.
Freestyle
NC State followed up its title in the 100 fly with its second win of the night as Soren Dahl earned his first individual ACC title, winning the 200 free in 1:32.74. His time qualifies as an NCAA "A" cut and marks the third-fastest time in program history. Justin Ress took third in the event, finishing in 1:33.31.Â

Scott Johnson took 12th overall in the event, touching the wall in 1:35.53, Joe Bonk placed 23rd in 1:37.20 and Danny Erlenmeyer finished 24th in 1:37.36.Â
Backstroke
In the 100 backstroke, freshman Coleman Stewart led a three-four-five punch by NC State. Stewart's time of 45.99 marks the third-fastest in program history. Andreas Schiellerup took fourth place in 46.19 and Hennessey Stuart finished fifth with a time of 46.46.
Individual Medley
Three Wolfpackers returned to finals in the 400 individual medley. Both Anton Ipsen and Adam Linker competed in the "A" final. Ipsen led the duo with a fifth place finish, touching in 3:44.77. Linker finished just behind him in seventh place with a time of 3:47.45. Matt O'Donnell took 15th overall, finishing in 3:49.17 in the "B" final.Â
Breaststroke
Derek Hren was NC State's lone 100 breaststroke entry. The senior finished in fifth overall with a time of 52.43.Â
Wolfpack Relays
NC State wrapped up the night with a second place finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Vazaios, Hren, Ress and Dahl broke the school record, posting a time of 3:04.56. Vazaios' lead-off 100 back split of 45.32 also broke the school record and earned him a NCAA "A" cut.Â
Up Next:
The Wolfpack will wrap up the 2017 ACC championships tomorrow with a full day of events. The day will begin with the 200 back, followed by the 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly. The preliminary heats of the 1650 are set to begin at 4:10 p.m., with the championship heat kicking off finals at 6 p.m.
