Wins the 200 medley, 800 freestyle relays
RESULTS
ATLANTA- The NC State men's swimming and diving team swept both events on day one of the ACC championships, winning the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays. Both relays earned NCAA "A" cuts and stand as the fastest times as the country so far this season.Â
Team Standings
After the first day of competition, NC State sits in fifth place with 130 points. Louisville leads with meet with 163 points, Duke holds second place with 147 points and Florida State rounds out the top-three with 146 points.
Wolfpack Relays
NC State started off the meet with its fourth-straight 200 medley relay title. The team of Coleman Stewart, Derek Hren, Soeren Dahl and Ryan Held posted a time of 1:23.16. The time set a conference, meet and school record as well as marked the fastest time in the country so far this season.Â

In the second event of the night, the squad of Andreas Vazaios, Held, Justin Ress and Dahl broke the meet record in the 800 free relay, winning the event in 6:09.82. The Wolfpack has won the event for four consecutive years, and was the first team this season to break the 6:10 barrier. Vazaios' leadoff split of 1:33.31 stands as the the fourth fastest 200 free in program history.Â

Quoting the Coaches
"It was a great start to the meet for us--any time you can start off the meet with a conference record like that gives the team great excitement--so good job by that relay," said head coach Braden Holloway. "The 800 free relay did a great job, I'm really pleased with the four guys we put up. We had some great splits and a great lead-off by Andreas. Soeren and Ryan did both relays, which is very difficult with just an hour turnaround—they were tough today. And Justin Ress was outstanding on that relay to do his part.
"But the day is over and now we have to come in tomorrow and do it all over again."
Up Next
Day two of the ACC Championships will begin on Tuesday with prelims starting at 10 a.m. Tomorrow's events include the 500 free, 200 individual medley, 50 free and 200 free relay (finals only).
