Pack Rewrites Record Books on Day Two of #ACCITF

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The NC State track and field team broke three school records and set numerous top-10 marks in the NC State record book on the second day of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The Pack advanced six athletes to the finals and earned three All-ACC honors on the second day of the competition.
After two days, the NC State men are fourth with 22 points and the women are 10th with nine points.
Jumps:
Christopher Garrick added the Pack's first points of the day with a fourth-place finish in the high jump for five points. Garrick matched his indoor career best of 7'0.50" to earn Second Team All-ACC honors. The sophomore jumper has scored at the conference meet and been an All-ACC selection in each of his three attempts.
Heptathlon:
Grant Rivers ended the meet on a strong note, finishing ninth overall in the competition for a new school record of 5,131 points. Rivers wrapped up the heptathlon with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m. The Hendersonville, N.C., native set a season high time of 8.48 in the 60m hurdles for 865 points, tied his pole vault PR after clearing 14'1.25" for 702 points and concluded the meet with a PR of 2:49.80 1,000m for 768 points in the 1,000m.
Mid-Distance:
Megan Moye and Kaitlyn Kramer booked their spots in the women's mile final, with impressive preliminary races. Moye posted a wire-to-wire victory in her heat with a time of 4:47.57. Kramer followed closely behind Moye and took third in the heat and eighth overall to earn an at-large qualifying mark with a time of 4:48.47.
In the 800m, Abdur-Rahmaan Kelly broke the school record with a time of 1:51.41. His time marked a near two-second improvement from his previous personal best, which vaulted him from ninth to first in the school's standings.
Sprints:
NC State's sprinters earned four qualifying marks for the finals, as Gabriele Cunningham qualified in the women's 60m race and Cravont Charleston and Nyheim Hines qualified in the men's event. Hines also led the Wolfpack men in the 200m to qualify for his second final of the night.
In the 60m, Cunningham recorded a lifetime best of 7.39 in the event to tie the school's record – set by Felicia Fant in 2004 – and finish second in her heat and eighth overall. Cunningham will race in Saturday's final.
On the men's side, Charleston and Hines finished second and third overall, respectively. Charleston ran a 6.70, while Hines recorded a 6.71 to qualify for Saturday's final. Hines' time is a .03 improvement from his previous personal best.
In the 200m, Hines finished eighth to qualify for the final with a time of 21.41, which moves him to ninth in school history in the event. Charleston won his heat in 21.71, and finished 14th overall.
In the women's 200m, both Paisley Simmons and Cunningham run under 24 seconds. Simmons finished 11th with a time of 23.90, while Cunningham set a personal best of 23.99 for 13th overall. Simmons is the current school record holder in the event and Cunningham moves to third all time with the mark.
Both Junpai Dowdy and Sam Krehnbrink set PRs in the men's 400m. Dowdy finished with a time of 48.19, while Krehnbrink broke the 49-second barrier indoors, running 48.69.
In the women's race, Tiana Patillo ran her fastest 400m dash of the season, crossing the finish line in 55.58.
Distance:
Sam Parsons led the Pack in the 5,000m, capturing a silver medal in the event with a PR of 13:52.26. The finish is his first medal at the ACC Indoor Championships and scored eight points for the men's team. His time ranks 23rd in the country and is good for third in the NC State record book. The mark was an eight-second PR. Eli Moskowitz added a point for the men's team, finishing eighth overall in 14:13.17 to score a point in the team standings.
On the women's side, Erika Kemp finished fifth overall with a time of 16:07.83. The finish added four points to the women's total and secured her spot on the All-ACC Second Team. Alyssa Rudawsky crossed the finish line in ninth with a time of 17:00.36, while Rebekah Greengrass finished 15th with a new PR of 17:33.05.
