No. 38 Pack Heads to Starkville to Face Top-25 Opponents

RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 38 NC State men's tennis team is back on the road this weekend as it travels to Starkville, Miss., for a Saturday afternoon match against No. 22 Tulane at 1 p.m. followed by a match Sunday at 12 p.m. against No. 20 Mississippi State.
NC State enters this weekend with an overall 7-4 record, and is coming off a 6-1 win at home against VCU last weekend.
Scouting Tulane:
The Green Wave will face Mississippi State Friday at 3 p.m. before facing the Wolfpack on Saturday. They will begin the weekend with a 7-1 record, winning their last three matches at home along with a road win this past weekend at LSU. Tulane is 3-2 in the overall series against the Wolfpack, however the Wolfpack won the last meeting in 2010. Constantin Schmitz leads Tulane at No. 37 in the ITA singles rankings, while Sebastian Rey is ranked No. 110. Rey and Chi-Shan Jao are ranked No. 59 in the doubles poll.
Scouting Mississippi State:
Mississippi State is entering the weekend coming off a big win against No. 7 Northwestern this past weekend at the ITA Indoor Championships. The win improved their record to 5-3 for the season. The Bulldogs are led in singles play by Nuno Borges who is ranked No. 4 overall in ITA rankings. Trevor Foshey and Niclas Braun lead the Bulldogs in doubles play and are ranked No. 26. This will be the second meeting in series history between the two schools. In their last meeting in 2015, Mississippi State edged NC State 4-3.
Last Time Out:
NC State picked up its seventh win of the season with a 6-1 result over VCU. The Pack won the doubles point for the first time in five matches and added straight-set wins from Alexis Galarneau, Nick Horton and Michael Ogden. Ogden clinched the victory for the Pack, while Georgiy Malyshev and Ivan Saveljic added singles wins after the result was clinched.
Pack In the Polls:
NC State made its debut in the ITA team ranking, as the poll expanded to include 50 teams for the first time this season. The Pack checked in at No. 38. Horton holds the lead in NC State's singles rankings, checking in at No. 58, while Galarneau rounds out the rankings for the Pack at No. 72.
On Form:
Malyshev leads the team with 14 combined singles wins between fall and spring play. He's also leading the team with eight victories in his last 10 matches. Horton holds the team's longest current win streak with three-straight wins. Galarneau and Igor Saveljic have also been playing well as of late for the Pack and have won seven of their last 10 singles matches.
