
Pack Withstands Georgia Tech Rally to Secure Road Win

Senior guard Terry Henderson leads NC State with 21 points
ATLANTA, Ga. – The NC State men's basketball team held off a furious Georgia Tech rally to defeat the Yellow Jackets, 71-69, Tuesday evening inside McCamish Pavilion.
With the win, NC State improved to 15-14 on the season, 4-12 in the ACC, while Georgia Tech fell to 16-12, 7-8 in the ACC.
NC State led 63-50 with 2:20 to play and still led by nine, 68-59, with 36 seconds to go, but the Yellow Jackets mounted one final rally, closing to within 70-69 on a three-pointer with four seconds to play. Dennis Smith, Jr., connected on one free throw to put the Pack up two and NC State secured the win as Georgia Tech's last second three-pointer bounced off the rim.
NC State did not trail after the first five minutes of the game. The Pack was down 6-4 before going on an 8-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. Georgia Tech would close within one, 19-18, with 7:47 left in the first half, but NC State responded with a 10-2 run to take a 29-20 lead with 5:21 to go in the first half. Terry Henderson scored eight consecutive points for the Pack during the run.
The Pack entered the halftime locker room with the momentum as NC State scored the final four points of the opening 20 minutes courtesy of a lob to Ted Kapita from Markell Johnson and a heads-up steal and lay-up from Maverick Rowan to go into the break with a 39-30 lead.
The 30 points by Georgia Tech tied for the fewest allowed in a half in an ACC game by NC State this season.
Georgia Tech scored the first six points of the second half to get within three, but Henderson again had the answer for the Pack as he scored five consecutive points for NC State to push the Pack's lead back to seven with 13:10 to go. The Yellow Jackets would not make it a one-possession game again until four seconds remained in the game.
NC State finished the game with a 12 advantage in rebounding, including a 14-5 advantage in second chance points.
Henderson led the Pack with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. Smith added 18 points and three steals. Abdul-Malik Abu had 10 rebounds for the Pack in just 17 minutes as he was limited most of the game in foul trouble.
NC State returns to action Saturday when it hosts Virginia at noon. The game will be televised on ESPN.
