Pack Falls to Virginia on Senior Day

Dennis Smith, Jr., leads four players in double figures with 13 points
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State dropped its final regular season home game Saturday afternoon, falling to #18/19 Virginia, 70-55, at PNC Arena.
The Wolfpack dropped to 15-15 overall and 4-13 in ACC play.
Markell Johnson and Dennis Smith Jr. scored 13 of NC State's first 16 points as the Wolfpack jumped out to a two-point lead before a 15-0 Virginia run swung momentum to the Cavaliers' favor.
The Wolfpack matched the Cavaliers in scoring, 5-5, in the final 5:06 of the first half but still trailed 35-21 entering the intermission after shooting 25 percent from the field.
Shaun Kirk came off the bench in the second half to energize the NC State attack, hitting a corner 3-pointer with 6:10 to go to cut Virginia's lead – which was as large as 19 – down to 10. The ensuing possession, Kirk grabbed a contested rebound that spurred a transition attack that led to a pair of Terry Henderson free throws that cut the deficit to 59-51.
Virginia's hot shooting continued for the remainder of the game as the Cavaliers pulled away to secure the victory; Virginia finished 11-for-16 from behind the 3-point line.
Abdul-Malik Abu surpassed Julius Hodge for sixth all-time in NC State history for offensive rebounds (257). Abu is 13 offensive boards away from Damon Thornton for fifth. He also joined 1,000-point club
Four different players scored double-digit points for NC State: Henderson (10), Johnson (11), Abu (12) and Smith Jr. (13).
The Pack closes the regular season slate on Wednesday when it plays at Clemson. The game will begin at 8 p.m. and be televised on the ACC Network.
