
NC State Baseball Drops Game Two in Hawai’i

HONOLULU – No. 6 NC State baseball suffered its first loss of the season Saturday evening, as the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors evened the series with an 8-3 victory at Les Murakami Stadium. The rubber game of the series is set for Sunday afternoon at 5:05 p.m. Eastern Time or 12:05 p.m. Hawaiian Time.
Both teams move to 1-1 on the season and the winner of Sunday's contest will determine the winner of the series.
Hawai'i struck first with a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Dylan Vchulek led off with a single to centerfield, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on an RBI single to center field by Kekai Rios.
The Warriors added to that total in the second with another run to extend the score to 2-0, as the result of a sacrifice fly to right field by Marcus Doi. Hawai'i broke the game open with a three-run fourth to take a 5-0 advantage and added three additional runs in the sixth.
Brock Deatherage drove in the first run of the night for NC State with a single to right field, scoring Stephen Pitarra from second base.
NC State looked to try and mount a comeback late in the game, highlighted by Brett Kinneman and Shane Shepard hitting solo home runs in the seventh inning.
On the Mound
- Junior Cody Beckman earned the start for the Wolfpack, pitching three innings before giving way to Mathieu Gauthier.
- Gauthier pitched well for NC State, tossing 2.2 innings pitched with six strikeouts.
- Evan Brabrand, Tim Naughton and Michael Bienlien also made appearances on the mound
- For Hawai'i', starting pitcher Dominic DeMiero earned the win following a strong performance with seven innings pitched.
