Saveljics Win Doubles Title As Wolfpack Concludes Fall Play

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – NC State men's tennis juniors Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic took home their second doubles title of the fall season Sunday at the Wake Forest Invitational. The closing day of the tournament marked the final outing for the Wolfpack before dual match play begins in January.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Igor and Ivan ended their fall on a high note, defeating James Madison's Theophile Lanthiez and Paul Mendoza 6-3 to take the doubles title at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The brothers' third win of the weekend put their final fall doubles mark at 8-1 heading into the spring season.
Freshmen Morgan Lohan and Tristan Smith were able to pick up a third-place finish in doubles play. They beat another James Madison duo in Alvaro Arce and Damon Roberts, winning that match 6-4.
NC State also earned five straight-sets singles wins on the final day of competition in Winston-Salem.
Ivan bested Indiana's Afonzo Salgado 6-4, 7-6 (5). Igor, also facing an opponent from Indiana, took down Bennett Crane 7-5, 6-2. Junior Georgiy Malyshev emerged victorious over Charlotte's Benjamin Wayand in a 7-6 (5), 6-3 decision.
Smith continued his success, capping off a 3-1 weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Wofford's Edu Villar. Lohan also ended the tournament with a win, beating Tennessee Tech's Arthur Justo 6-3, 7-5.
UP NEXT:
The Wolfpack will prepare for the 2018 dual match season, which kicks off January 13 as the team returns home to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center for a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb and Winthrop.
