RALEIGH – The NC State men's tennis team released its schedule for the 2018 spring season, as announced by head coach Kyle Spencer Wednesday. The team is set to compete in 24 dual matches over the course of the spring, highlighted by 13 home matches at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
"The ACC schedule is the beast of NCAA tennis in terms of its eliteness at the upper echelon, as well as its depth throughout the league," said Spencer. "Our non-conference schedule is designed to get us ready for that fantastic challenge in the ACC and the NCAA Tournament."
The slate features 11 meetings with teams that played in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and matches against 12 teams that finished in the top 50 of the Oracle/ITA Division I Collegiate Rankings at the end of last season. Included amongst the scheduled opponents are the top three teams from the conclusion of last season in Virginia, Wake Forest, and UNC-Chapel Hill, who are all conference opponents.
The Wolfpack opens spring competition with 12 non-conference matches over the course of the first two months of play. The season will officially kick off Jan. 13 with NC State hosting a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb and Winthrop.
The remainder of the non-conference schedule includes trips to Northwestern (Jan. 18), Minnesota (Jan. 20), Old Dominion (Feb. 16), VCU (Feb. 17), and Tennessee (March 9) and home matchups against Elon (Feb. 9), Charlotte and Coastal Carolina (Feb. 11), Furman (Feb. 25), and Texas (March 2).
NC State is set to begin ACC competition at home, playing host to UNC-Chapel Hill (March 14) and Duke (March 16) before a three-match road stint at Virginia Tech (March 18), Florida State (March 23), and Miami (March 25). After returning home for four straight ACC matches against Notre Dame (March 30), Boston College (March 31), Georgia Tech (April 6), and Clemson (April 8), the Wolfpack will close its regular season on the road at Virginia (April 13), Louisville (April 15), and Wake Forest (April 22).
Postseason play begins the last weekend of April as the 2018 ACC Championships returns to Cary Tennis Park April 25-29.
The 2018 NCAA Tennis Championships will begin the weekend of May 11-13, with the first two rounds contested at regional host sites. The remainder of the tournament's matches, including both team competition and competition for the individual singles and doubles titles, will take place from May 17-28 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, NC.
