The Pack women are coming off an NCAA Southeast Regional title, highlighted by All-Region performances from Dominique Clairmonte (5th), Elly Henes (6th), Beth Taye (8th) and Rachel Koon (16th). NC State took fourth place in the men's regional race, with true freshman Ian Shanklin claiming All-Region honors in his first collegiate 10K as he placed 19th.
REWIND TO 2016 NATIONALS
Last year, the NC State women posted their second-best national finish in program history, placing 4th overall with 223 points. Erika Kemp and Rachel Koon led the Pack with 17th and 25th-place finishes, respectively, to claim All-America honors. It was the first time the Pack women boasted multiple All-Americans since 2006.
On the men's side, NC State claimed its first top-25 finish since 2011, placing 22nd with 543 points. Sam Parsons (51st) and Aubrey Myjer (98th) each notched top-100 performances to lead the Pack.
#PACKXC IN THE POLLS
The NC State women will head to the national meet as the No. 5 team in the country, according to the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national coaches' poll. The Pack has held the No. 5 spot in the rankings since Oct. 17.
The Wolfpack is slated as the No. 28 team in the nation on the men's side. NC State was ranked as high as No. 22 this season after defeating eight nationally ranked opponents at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 13.
HENES NAMED NCAA SOUTHEAST REGION COACH OF THE YEAR
For the second-straight season and third time overall, women's head coach Laurie Henes was named the NCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year earlier this week. In 2017, Henes led the Pack to back-to-back ACC and Southeast Regional titles, and she will look to lead NC State to its second-consecutive podium (top-four) appearance at the national meet this week.
UP NEXT
The end of the meet will mark the end of NC State's 2017 cross country season. The Pack's distance athletes, along with the sprinters, jumpers and throwers will gear up for indoor track & field season beginning with the Boston University Season Opener on Friday, Dec. 1.
