RALEIGH - NC State men's tennis players Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden will close out their fall campaigns at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which begins Wednesday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. and the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif.
Galarneau, who sits at No. 43 in the ITA preseason rankings, is one of 11 ACC players set to compete in singles. His program-best run to the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships in the beginning of October earned him an automatic bid to the tournament.
Fourteenth-ranked Galarneau and Ogden will compete in the doubles field. The pair went 5-1 to reach the doubles final at the ITA Carolina Regional earlier this month and were awarded an at-large bid to play at the tournament.
The 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships replaces the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and will run from Nov. 1-5. It marks only the second time that a collegiate event is set to be played at the prestigious Indian Wells venue. Players from all five collegiate divisions will be competing for a national championship, with 64 men playing in the singles draw and 32 pairs playing in the doubles draw.
MATCHUPS:
Galarneau is set to square off against Tulane's No. 77 Ewan Moore, who was an at-large selection into the tournament. Moore most recently reached the semifinals of the ITA Southern Regional.
Galarneau and Ogden will face another at-large selection in Cal's 39th-ranked Billy Griffith and JT Nishimura, who are coming off of a run to the ITA Northwest Regional doubles final.
WEDNESDAY'S SCHEDULE:
Galarneau begins singles play at 2 p.m. Doubles will begin later in the day, with Galarneau and Ogden's match scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the JW Marriott location.
