RALEIGH – For the first time since 1995, the NC State women's soccer team is headed to the ACC Championship semifinals thanks to a dominant 4-1 win over No. 24 Notre Dame in the first round of the tournament on Sunday afternoon at Dail Soccer Stadium.
The win snaps a five-match win streak for the Irish in the all-time series, as the Wolfpack improves to 14-4-1 while the Irish fall to 9-6-4 on the season.
QUOTING THE TEAM
Head Coach Tim Santoro
On advancing to ACC semifinal
"Any postseason win whether it's in the ACC Championship or NCAA Tournament is big, especially for this program because there hasn't been many in a long time," said head coach Tim Santoro. "It was nice to set the record straight, Notre Dame is a really good team and they were better than us the first time we played them this year."
On nine wins at home
"You always want to be good at home because you feel you have an advantage on the team's travel. It's hard being on the road so when you're at home you want to be good but I didn't realize we were that good. Hopefully there's a few more home games coming up."
Tziarra King
On getting a hat trick and beating Notre Dame
"It was important to us to redeem ourselves after the last time we played them," said Tziarra King. "I was just out there playing. It's really important for us to look at the process over the outcome, so we just played our game and got the result."
