#PackXC Heads to Louisville for ACC Championships

The women's team looks to repeat as conference champions in 2017. The men aim to improve on their third-place finish from a year ago.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The NC State men's and women's cross country programs begin postseason action Friday, Oct. 27 at the 2017 ACC Championships. The University of Louisville will host the conference meet at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, beginning at 10 a.m. Friday morning.

Nine Wolfpack athletes took home All-ACC honors, including current Pack runners Ryen Frazier, Wesley Frazier, Elly Henes, Rachel Koon, Alyssa Rudawsky, Ben Barrett and Patrick Sheehan.

NC State owns the conference record for most consecutive team titles as the Pack women claimed seven-straight ACC trophies from 1987-93. The Wolfpack men set the ACC record for lowest team score with a 16-point outing (1, 2, 3, 4, 6) in 1999. Additionally, the men's team has placed in the top-three at 26 of the last 28 conference meets.

The NC State women placed third in a field that featured 16 nationally ranked teams. Dominique Clairmonte was the Pack's top finisher for the first time in her career as she crossed the line 16th with a time of 20:13.4 in her 6K debut. Elly Henes (22nd), Beth Taye (31st), Rachel Koon (41st) and Ryen Frazier (59th) completed the Wolfpack top five.
On the men's side, NC State upset eight ranked teams as it placed 15th. Elijah Moskowitz was the top Pack athlete for the third-straight meet, placing 51st with a mark of 24:21.2. Tanis Baldwin (85th), Edwin Rutto (102nd), Patrick Sheehan (113th) and Ben Barrett (120th) rounded out the top five for the Wolfpack.
The Pack had four athletes compete in the 'B' Races at Wisconsin. Redshirt-senior Bethany Neeley and freshman Isabel Zimmermann represented the women's team, placing 20th and 27th, respectively. Alec Thomas (16th) and Tim Bason (59th) ran for the Pack in the men's 'B' race. Luis Vargas, a three-time All-American on the track during his tenure with the Pack, ran unattached and won the 'B' race with a 23:41.2 performance.

The Wolfpack had 11 athletes competing as individuals at the Pirate Invitational. True freshman Ian Shanklin earned an individual runner-up finish in his collegiate 8K debut, posting a time of 24:10.37 as he ran unattached. On the women's side, Rebekah Greengrass and Rachel Bartolomeo finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The women's team was selected fifth overall in both the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll and the FloTrack FloXC Rankings. The Wolfpack men sit 22nd in the USTFCCCA poll and 23rd on FloTrack.

WEEKLY AWARDS PILING UP
The Wolfpack has earned a total of six weekly awards from the ACC this season. Elly Henes was named the Women's Performer of the Week following the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational (Sept. 29). Dominique Clairmonte is a three-time Freshman of the Week honoree for the NC State women, while Edwin Rutto and Joe Bistritz have each claimed FOTW awards for the men.UP NEXT
