No. 12 Rifle Tallies Season High in GARC Win Versus 10th-ranked Akron

Wolfpack earns conference win against Zips in home opener
RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 12 NC State rifle recorded a season-high score of 4656 to earn a Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) victory against the 10th-ranked Akron Zips Saturday afternoon inside Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack tallied its best score of the year in the smallbore competition with a 2313 clip and a 2343 in air rifle to compile its aggregate total.

Akron shot a 2297 in smallbore and a 2345 in air rifle to accumulate its overall score of 4642.

NC State moves to 5-4 on the year and 2-2 in GARC action, while Akron falls to 2-2 and 1-2 in conference matches.

Overall thoughts…
"It's always good to get a win against a conference opponent," said head coach Kieth Miller. "We knew it would be a very close match and it was because Akron is shooting really well, they shot a school record last week.

"It was great because it gave us the GARC win and it was the highest score of the season so it will help with our ranking. Lastly, there were a lot of strong individual performances, so we're happy overall and always nice to win at home."

Smallbore Notes
- Sophomore Kendra Jacobs headlined NC State's performance in the smallbore competition with a personal-best score of 585 to lead all shooters. The Trent, S.D., native earned a 99 on her second series in kneeling and both series in prone.
- Graduate student Lauren Phillips tallied a score of 578 to notch the third-best score in the event thanks to a perfect first series in prone.
- Zach Eisenberg, a sophomore from Burke, Va., logged a score of 576 in the competition and Will Marciniak finished right behind him with a 574.
- Claire Zanti and Derya Pekari rounded out the lineup for the Wolfpack with scores of 569 and 554, respectively.
- NC State turned in a season-high team score of 2313 in smallbore, while Akron earned a 2297 to give the Pack a 16-point advantage heading into air rifle.
