Wolfpack Dominates Runnin’ Bulldogs, 4-0

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team won its fifth match in a row and produced its third-straight shutout with a dominant, 4-0, victory over Gardner-Webb. Kia Rankin(2), Frances Henshall and Michaella van Maanen all recorded goals in the blowout.
The Pack concludes its non-conference slate with a 6-2-0 record, while Gardner-Webb falls to 2-5-2. The Pack's five-straight wins are the most consecutive wins since the 2012 squad also won five in a row.
NC State posted a season high 35 shots, including 15 shots on target, while limiting GWU to three shots and just one on target. The Pack dominated time on the ball and peppered the visitor's goal with shots and attacks throughout the night.
The Wolfpack backline and goalkeeper Sydney Wootten earned its third straight shutout behind a level performance. NC State stifled the GWU attack and Wootten passed her only test of the night, making an impressive diving save to keep the Runnin' Bulldogs off the board.

It took 25 minutes for NC State to break the deadlock, as Kia Rankin buried the first goal of her career after a give and go with Rachel Cox. Rankin found Cox open in the middle of the field. Cox slotted a ball home to Rankin who kicked it past the keeper from about 10 yards out. Cox earned her second assist of the season with the pass.
NC State doubled the advantage 16 minutes later as Rankin earned her second goal of the night. Kristina Schuster crossed a ball from the right. The pass found the open Rankin in the box who slotted it home. Schuster has now tied the team lead with four assists.
NC State entered the half with a, 2-0, advantage and a, 17-1, advantage in shots.
NC State continued to wreak havoc on the GWU defense throughout the second half. The Pack was rewarded again in the 74th minute when Henshall recorded her first goal of her career off a corner from van Maanen. Henshall found space on the right post and headed home the ball that was whipped in from the left.
The Pack struck again in the 82nd minute, as van Mannen scored her second goal in as many matches. The Woodbridge, Va., native tapped home a cross from fellow freshman Daria Draovitch. van Mannen is up to four goals this season and Draovitch has recorded two assists.
