Pack Closes Out Non-Conference Slate Against Gardner Webb

RALEIGH, N.C. – After playing a pair of games on the road, the NC State women's soccer team returns home for a Sunday night matchup against Gardner Webb at 7 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium.
NC State enters the contest on a four match winning streak and two straight shut outs. The regionally ranked Wolfpack defeated UNCW, 2-0, on Sunday before taking down ECU, 2-0, Thursday night.
The Wolfpack has continued to find ways to win this season, scoring goals against defensive-based formations from both UNCW and ECU.
Scouting Gardner Webb:
The Runnin' Bulldogs enter the match with a 2-4-2 record. Gardner Webb has forced overtime four times this season, including a, 1-1, tie against Maryland. They are coming off a win over South Carolina State on Wednesday and double OT loss against Appalachian State on Friday. They are led by Brandi Arey, who has recorded a team-leading four goals this season.
The two teams have never met in a regular-season contest until Sunday.
Pack in the Rankings:
The Wolfpack checked in at No. 10 in the NSCAA Southeast Regional Poll, marking its season debut in the regional rankings. The Pack earned a pair of wins over previously undefeated teams, defeating High Point, 4-2, on Thursday and earning a, 2-0, road win at UNCW on Sunday.
The dangerous NC State offensive unit is currently producing one of the strongest attacking displays in the country this year. The Pack ranks 28th in the NCAA in scoring offense with 2.57 goals per match. The team is ranked in the top-10 in total assists, total goals and total points.
Ricarda Walkling leads the team with four assists, and Jackie Stengel is the team's leading scorer with five goals.
From the Whistle:
NC State has struck quickly from the start and re-start of matches this season. The enhanced focus on the first 15 minutes of each period has paid off for the Pack with nine goals coming in the first 15' of the first or second half. Most recently, the Pack broke the deadlock with ECU just seven minutes into the second half.
Pack Attack:
The NC State scoring offense is paced by five multi-goal scorers. Three freshmen and a pair of upperclassmen have recorded at least two goals in the recent finishing frenzies this season. The Pack's 18 goals are currently ranked eighth in the NCAA.
Youth Movement:
The NC State freshmen class has already made a big impact on the field. The group accounts for five players in the Pack's starting lineup and six have recorded either a goal or assist, while 10 have seen playing time. Overall, freshmen have accounted for 56 percent of the team's points from nine goals and 12 assists
The German Assist:
The Pack's two German players – Walkling and Kristina Schuster – have provided seven of the Pack's 14 assists this season. Walkling leads the team with four assists. Schuster has added three assists off the right flank.
Last Time Out:
NC State picked up a, 2-0, victory at ECU on Thursday night with goals from Tziarra King and Michaella van Maanen. The Wolfpack improved to 5-2-0 with the win and has won four straight matches and posted its second straight shutout.
NC State outshot the Pirates, 10-9, and held a, 4-0, advantage in corner kicks. The defense limited the Pirates to just three shots on goal and Sydney Wootten earned three saves in her second-straight shutout.

Sunday is Patriot Day at Dail Soccer Stadium. The Air Force ROTC will present the colors before the match. Military, police, firefighters, EMS and first responders will receive $3 admission with a valid ID. The Trinity Soccer Pride u13 squad is the team of the match.
