
NC State Faces Early Test Against South Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team will face RV South Carolina in a 7 p.m. Thursday night kickoff at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium. The matchup will be the squad's first match against a ranked opponent and the first official road match of the season.

Scouting the Gamecocks:
South Carolina enters the match with a 1-0-1 record. The hosts drew, 1-1, with Oklahoma in its season opener before defeating Tulsa, 4-1, on Sunday. Savannah McCaskill currently leads the South Carolina attack with six points after she netted a hat trick against Tulsa.

Overall South Carolina leads the series with a 4-1-0 advantage. The teams last officially met in 2003. The Pack also played USC in an exhibition game at the start of the 2015 season.

Jackie Stengel led the Wolfpack attack with a hat trick. Stengel was nearly perfect from the field, as she scored with each of her first three shots. Her fourth and final shot glanced off the post. Her three goals and six points rank fifth and 13th in the NCAA, respectively.

Senior Rachel Cox also put up impressive numbers to start the season, Cox added two goals and an assist on Friday and is up to five points this season. She is ranked 24th in the NCAA in goals and 28th in points.

Ricarda Walkling(two assists) and Michaella van Maanen(one goal) lead the freshman with two points each. Kristina Schuster, Kia Rankin and Daria Draovitch are also point scorers for the Pack after each one tallied an assist in the opening match.

NC State dropped its last match of the Wake Forest Invitational against San Diego, 1-0, after the Toreros were awarded and converted a penalty during the second overtime period.Â
