RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team will open its season at the Wake Forest Invitational against La Salle Friday night at 5 p.m. at the Spry Soccer Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Wolfpack will also take on San Diego Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in the same early-season tournament.
Fresh Faces:
NC State will debut 11 freshmen this season. The recruiting class of 2016 will play a big part on the field. The talented group saw their first 11v11 action in a preseason exhibition against Richmond, and most of the group will suit up for the Pack in their first official match this weekend.
Core Strength:
The Pack brings back six of its top-eight point scorers and eight players who saw action in at least 10 games from the 2015 season.
Preseason Results:
In its only exhibition of the preseason, NC State out possessed and outshot Richmond, but couldn't find the go-ahead score, as it drew 1-1 with the Spiders. In addition to controlling play, all 17 of the Pack's available players were able to see time on the field.

Scouting Report:
NC State will open the season with two strong non-conference opponents. Both teams have posted impressive seasons in last few years and could lock up NCAA bids from their conference.
La Salle has advanced to the NCAA Tournament four of the last five years and has been dominant against A10 schools, capturing either the regular season title or championship three of the last four years.
San Diego has been to the NCAA Tournament twice in the last six seasons, including its most recent visit in 2014. The Toreros have posted double digit win seasons in two of the last three seasons.
Last year, San Diego edged the Pack, 2-1 in the season opener. The match is the only time the two teams met previously in program history.
