Pack Falls in ACCT Opener

NC State dropped a 7-3 decision to Florida State Wednesday in Durham
DURHAM, N.C. - No. 13 NC State baseball fell 7-3 against No. 11 Florida State on Wednesday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Wolfpack (34-19) fell into a 1-0 deficit in the bottom first on a solo shot to left. NC State rallied in the second to tie when Brock Deatherage stole home during a double steal with Andrew Knizner. The Pack grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third thanks to Josh McLain's leadoff double, and stretched the margin to 3-1 in the fourth on Brett Kinneman's RBI scoring Joe Dunand. Florida State (35-19) tied the game 3-3 in the sixth on a two-out RBI single to right. In the eighth, the Seminoles put the game away with four runs following a leadoff double to set the final 7-3.
Knizner led the way in a 2-for-2 effort with a walk. McLain stole his 13th base and hit his 18th double of the season in a 2-for-4 performance with a run. Deatherage went 1-for-4, scoring on a steal of home, his 13th stolen base of the year and first steal of home since Trea Turner pulled the feat against Coastal Carolina on May 3, 2014. Dunand scored once and walked once in a 1-for-3 outing. Evan Mendoza provided an RBI on a grounder to short in the third.
Wolfpack starter Cory Wilder left after facing one batter in the sixth, allowing two earned on three hits and four walks with four punchouts. Austin Staley faced the next two batters, giving up an earned run and a hit. Will Gilbert (3-1) ended up with the loss after striking out four of the first six batters he faced over 1 2/3, leaving with three earned on three hits and a walk. Tommy DeJuneas allowed one earned on a walk and a hit in one inning, striking out one.
NC State returns to action 7 PM Thursday to face Miami, televised on RSN affiliates, streaming on FOX Sports GO app and ESPN3 (subject to blackout).
