RALEIGH, N.C. – ÂThe NC State softball team will complete its home schedule this weekend when the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets visit Dail Stadium. The Wolfpack's two seniors, Maggie Hawkins and Lana Van Dyken, will be recognized prior to Saturday's doubleheader slated for 1 p.m., while Sunday's single game will begin at noon.
Â
NC State enters the final home weekend with a 21-29 overall record and a 4-14 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, while Georgia Tech is 20-29 and 5-12 in league action.
Â
Last season, the Pack traveled to Atlanta and won two of three games against the Yellow Jackets to clinch the series. Former Wolfpack standout Emily Weiman broke the program record with her 91st career victory in a 10-0 victory in the series finale.
Â
Georgia Tech leads the all-time series, 25-13, but the Wolfpack has won five of the last six meetings.
Â
Last Time Out
In its last outing of the season, NC State came up short against Boston College at home, 5-2. Georgia Tech defeated Kennesaw State, 4-0, in its most recent action.
Â
Then There Were Two
NC State has a relatively young team, as Hawkins and Van Dyken are the only seniors on the squad.
Â
Maggie Hawkins
Since arriving at NC State after spending her freshman and sophomore seasons at Hofstra, Maggie has been a mainstay in the Wolfpack lineup starting every game the last two years. Hawkins has played multiple positions during her tenure at NC State, including catcher, first base, second base, third base, right field and also pitched an inning earlier this season. For her career, she has a batting average of .302 with 195 career hits. She also has 33 career home runs, with 20 of those coming in a Wolfpack uniform. Last season, Hawkins hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh against Fordham to lift NC State to its first-ever NCAA Super Regional. She was the Pack's top hitter in the regional with five hits two homers and 11 total bases. This season, Maggie has a .293 batting average and has hit nine balls out of the park. Hawkins will graduate in May with a degree in sport management.
Â
Lana Van Dyken
For the past four years, Lana has manned the hot corner for NC State as she has made 196 career starts at third base. She has started every game for the Wolfpack in each of the last three seasons and started 54 of 55 games as a freshman for a total of 219 games played and 218 starts, both of which rank among the top 10 in NC State career history. This season, Lana has shown her versatility after an injury in the Wolfpack lineup forced her to start 22 games at shortstop while starting the other 38 games at third base. She has scored 113 career runs and is just one of five players in NC State softball history to score 100 or more runs. Van Dyken turned in a historic sophomore season, finishing with a batting average of .361, the fourth highest in a single season. She also has five career triples, the second most in program history. Defensively, Lana has 387 career assists, which ranks fourth all-time in NC State history. Van Dyken will graduate in May with a degree in biological sciences.
Â
Gimme Six
NC State has compiled a record of 16-5 when scoring at least six runs in a contest. In comparison, the Wolfpack has just five wins when plating five runs or fewer.
Â
Lucky Number Two
The Wolfpack has hit two or more home runs on 18 occasions this season and has won 13 of those contests.
Â
In addition, NC State has also scored 43 runs in the second inning – the most it has scored in any frame this season.
Â
Crucial Third Inning
NC State owns a 15-5 mark when leading at the conclusion of the third inning.
Â
