NC State baseball defeated Fairfield on Tuesday
RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 8 NC State baseball won its eighth game in a row, 4-2 over Fairfield on Tuesday at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Wolfpack (11-2) fell behind for the 12th time in 13 contests as Fairfield (3-4) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top first. Preston Palmeiro evened the score with a solo shot to right. Shane Shepard followed that with a solo homer of his own in the fourth. NC State added two runs in the sixth, and fought off a late Stag rally to set the final 4-2.
Chris Williams (2-0) scored the second win of his career, stemming the tide as the first reliever out of a Wolfpack bullpen that worked seven shutout innings. Williams lasted a career-long 4 1/3, scattering three hits with one strikeout and no walks.
Evan Brabrand allowed one earned in 2 1/3, fanning one. Sean Adler struck out one in 2/3. Tommy DeJuneas earned his third save with a one-hit ninth, punching out a pair.
Andrew Knizner stacked up three hits in his first three plate appearances, finishing 3-for-4. Josh McLain accounted for an RBI in the eighth, part of a 2-for-4 day. Brock Deatherage provided a bunt single for an RBI that same inning, adding a stolen base. Stephen Pitarra and Garrett Suggs each scored once. Joe Dunand went 2-for-3.
