NC State Softball Drops Doubleheader at Louisville

Freshman Brittany Nimmo hits her first career home run
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The NC State softball team had a tough day defensively in the program's fist-ever trip to Louisville's Ulmer Stadium and dropped a doubleheader with the Cardinals. The Wolfpack suffered a 10-1 loss in the first game and battled hard in the second game, but fell 12-9.

NC State falls to 15-17 on the year and 2-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), while Louisville improves to 21-6 and 7-1 in conference play.

The Rundown (Game One)
- NC State had a tough day defensively against Louisville, as six of the Cardinals 10 runs were unearned.
- Louisville struck first in the contest with an unearned run in the bottom of the first to grab a 1-0 lead and added another run in the second inning thanks to an RBI triple from Jordan McNary to push the advantage to 2-0.
- Sophomore Meredith Burroughs led off the top of the fourth for NC State with a solo home run to right field to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. It was her eighth homer of the year.
- Louisville tacked on four runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead to 6-1.
- In the fifth inning, the Cardinals scored their first run of the frame on an error by the Wolfpack and a three-run homer by Megan Hensley ended the contest, as the Cards stretched their lead to 10-1.
- Courtney Mirabella pitched for NC State and only allowed four earned runs.

- The Wolfpack started fast in game two of the twin bill, plating two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
- Burroughs ignited the offense with a single through the right side to score Brittany Nimmo.
- A double down the left field line by Hannah Yeager scored Burroughs from second base to give NC State a two-run advantage.
- Louisville responded in the bottom of the frame with a pair of RBI singles to tie the score.
- Nimmo hit her first collegiate home run in the second inning to put the Wolfpack ahead, 4-2. The freshman sent the eighth pitch of her at-bat sailing over the center field fence for a two-run homer.
- The Cardinals capitalized on a Wolfpack error to score seven runs in the second, six of which were unearned.

- Trailing 9-4, NC State chipped away at the lead with two runs in the third and three in the fifth to knot the score, 9-9.
- Alyssa Compton doubled to right center, scoring Yeager and Maggie Hawkins to trim the deficit to 9-6.
- A Louisville throwing error plated the first run of the fifth for NC State before an RBI single from Molly Hutchison and an RBI walk from Burroughs with the bases loaded to tie the score, 9-9.
- Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, the Cards answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to grab an 11-9 lead and added another in the sixth to earn the 12-9 win.
