Wolfpack Softball Earns Pair of Run-Rule, Shutout Victories

NC State scores 20 runs on the day and didn’t allow a run
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team made a #STATEment on the first day of competition in the DoubleTree RDU Challenge, as the Wolfpack earned a pair of shutout, run-rule victories. The Pack ran past Delaware State in the first game, 12-0, and shut out Loyola Chicago in the nightcap, 8-0.
NC State moves to 11-9 on the season, while Delaware State falls to 7-9 and Loyola drops to 13-6.
Rychcik's Review
Opening statement…
"I'm really happy with our performance today, getting a couple shutouts and we scored a lot of runs," said head coach Shawn Rychcik. "We've been waiting for this kind of offensive production and it was throughout our batting order from top to bottom.
"We were pretty sharp in all aspects of the game with some good pitching, good hitting and good defense."
Quick Hits (Versus Delaware State)
- NC State earned its first run-rule victory and shutout of the season in a 12-0 win against Delaware State.
- Macauley Prickett ignited the Wolfpack offense in the bottom of the second, to give the Wolfpack a 2-0 lead in the game as Jessica Moore and Brittany Nimmo scored.
- Two batters later, Tyler Ross smacked a 2-run homer to put the Pack ahead, 4-0. It was her team-leading ninth blast of the season and scored Prickett.
- NC State broke the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the third to extend the advantage to 12-0.
- Maggie Hawkins led off the inning with a solo home run to left center to give the Wolfpack a 5-0 lead.
- Lana Van Dyken reached on catcher's interference with the bases loaded to push across the sixth run and Ross followed with a bases-clearing double to make the score, 9-0.
- Hawkins added an RBI single in the frame, Hannah Yeager drew a bases loaded walk and Alyssa Compton contributed an RBI single to push NC State's lead to 12-0.

- Ross led the Wolfpack at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, highlighted by a home run and five RBI, which matches her career high.
- Hawkins was also 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
