
Wolfpack Record Holders Set for NCAAs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The NC State No. 17 men's and No. 20 women's track and field teams send six athletes with eight entries to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships to compete Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex.

All of NC State's qualifiers set a school record during their qualification process and four athletes are making at least their second trip to the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
The group of qualifiers helped lead the team in a season where the Pack broke eighth school records and stayed in the top-25 polls for most of the indoor season.
Meet the Qualifiers:
Nicole Chavis – Weight Throw – Friday 7:20 p.m.
Chavis extended her grip on the weight throw school record and earned her national qualifying mark with a toss of 71'10.75" at the Vanderbilt Invitational. The redshirt senior has held the record since her sophomore year and has extended it multiple times each year. The Lumberton, N.C., native enters the meet as the third seed. Chavis recently had a fourth-place finish in the weight throw at the ACC Indoor Championships.
Chavis is making her third straight appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships. In each of her last two appearances, Chavis finished in sixth-place and earned First-Team All-American honors.
Megan Moye – Mile Semifinals – Friday 5:45 p.m.
Moye broke a 27-year old indoor mile school record in 4:37.04 at the Husky Classic to earn NCAA qualification. Moye enters the race with the 12th seed. The Moseley, Va., native recently earned a silver medal in the mile at the ACC Indoor Championships.
This is Moye's second-straight trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships. She earned First-Team All-America honors in the DMR in 2015.
Moye will run in the second heat of the semifinals Friday. The top four from each heat and the next two fastest times will advance to Saturday's final heat.
Erika Kemp – 5,000m – Friday 8:25 p.m., 3,000m – Saturday 6:25 p.m.
Kemp enters the NCAA Championships with a pair of qualifying marks. The Mount Holly, N.J., native kicked off the year with an impressive 15:45.46 5,000m race at the BU Season Opener. The mark broke Laurie Henes' previous indoor school record and is good for the seventh seed in the event. She recently took third at the ACC Championships in the 5k and earned the USTFCCCA Southeast Women's Track Athlete of the Year Award.
Kemp earned her second national mark of the season at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. The junior in crossed the finish line in 9:06.07. Kemp's time is good for the seventh seed in Saturday's 3,000m race.
Luis Vargas – 5,000m – Friday 8:05 p.m., 3,000m – Saturday 6:10 p.m.
Vargas will also race in the the 5k 3k double at the NCAA Championships. The Elon-transfer finished just shy of school records, placing behind Wolfpack legend Ryan Hill in both events. However, Vargas did earn a school record in the DMR, anchoring the team with a sub-4 minute 1,600m leg.
He opened his season quickly, earning national top-16 5,000m and 3,000m marks in his first two races. Vargas set his first top time in the 5,000m at the Hosier Open in December, before improving the mark at the Husky Classic. His 5k time of 13:47.00 is good for the meet's 13th seed. At ACCs, Vargas finished fourth in a highly-competitive 5k field, which featured four NCAA qualifiers.
Vargas added a 3k national time at the Camel City Invite with a then-nation leading time of 7:48.81 (converted from 7:54.26). Entering the meet, Vargas is the 13th seed in Saturday's race.

Jonathan Addison – Long Jump – Friday 5:20 p.m.
Addison enters his fourth consecutive NCAA Championships and is in a tie for the top seed with a mark of 26'9.75". Addison shares the national lead with Jarion Lawson of Arkansas.
The Raleigh, N.C., native earned the mark in a school-record setting performance the at the VT Elite, where he soared to a new school record by more than six inches.
In each of his NCAA Championship appearances Addison has earned a higher finish each time. He most recently finished fourth at the 2015 Outdoor Championships where he cleared the 26' mark for the first time, soaring to a fourth-place finish.
This season, the senior has cleared the 26' barrier three times, has won an ACC Championship and for the second year in a row has been awarded the USTFCCCA Southeast Men's Field Athlete of the Year.
Joshua Davis – Weight Throw – Friday 5:00 p.m.
Davis was the Pack's final qualifier for the NCAA Championships. He originally came up half an inch short and sat in 17th-place at the end of the qualifying period, but after a medical scratch, Davis was awarded the spot.
The redshirt-sophomore will aim to continue his record-setting year in the weight throw. Davis has already broken the record twice and is coming off of a bronze-medal finish at the ACC championships with a PR of 69'11.00". He enters the meet as the 16th seed.
