PALO ALTO, Calif. - The NC State women's soccer team continued its historic year and sealed its spot in the NCAA Sweet 16 Friday night with a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 19 Pepperdine. It's the Pack's second straight shutout, as the team improves to 11-8-2 with the win.
The team has advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship only four times in program history with the previous three coming in 1995, 1989 and 1988. The victory is also the team's seventh win over a team ranked or receiving votes this season.
The Pack's 11 wins are the most wins since 1996. NC State has now knocked out the Big 10 and West Coast Conference Champions in consecutive matches.
San Diego, Calif., native Taylor Porter buried the match-winning-goal in the 65th minute off a header inside the six-yard box. Kristina Schuster earned the assist after crossing the ball into the box. NC State held the possession advantage and outshot Pepperdine 8-4.
