Wolfpack finishes with two-over par 866
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The NC State women's golf team moved up one spot on the leaderboard on the final day of play at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational to finish fourth of 18 teams in the final standings.
The Wolfpack carded a total of 289 (+1) on Sunday to finish the weekend with a two-over par score of 866 at UNC-Chapel Hill's Finley Golf Course.
"I'm very proud of the comeback of this team. We kept bouncing back and allowed for opportunities. I was appreciative of all the support we got from teammates, staff, family and loyal fans. Score doesn't define you and each shot or hole doesn't either, unless you give in and allow it to," said head coach Page Marsh.
"We did a better job this week of having a positive mindset to enable opportunity. When it didn't happen the way we expected we plodded on and believed it could. The competitive game isn't easy but if you give great respect to the game in time good things come."
Laura Kowohl led the team on the final day of competition with a career-low three-under par 69, shaving nine strokes off of Saturday's score. India Clyburn and Leonie Bettel each turned in a score of 72 (E) to finish among the top 10 of the individual standings, as Clyburn finished sixth and Bettel took ninth. This marked Clyburn's seventh top-20 finish of her career and Bettel''s first top-10 finish of her's.
Cecily Overbey and Naomi Ko rounded out the Pack's showing on Sunday as both carded a score of 76 (+4), as Overbey earned a top 30 finish in her season debut.
Crystal Huang and Sarah Bae, the team's individual competitors, posted scores of 74 and 76, in respective order, to finish out the weekend with a 54-hole total of 226.
In the team standings, Wake Forest claimed the tournament title with a three-day score of 854 (-10), while Alabama and Arkansas rounded out the top three with scores of 859 and 860, respectively. Wake's Jennifer Kupcho earned medalist honors with a 15-under par 201.
