RALEIGH – Leading by no fewer than 10 points over the course of the final 29 minutes and 45 seconds, the NC State women's basketball team (10-5, 1-1) cruised to a comfortable 64-47 win over Wake Forest Sunday afternoon in the club's 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference home opener.
NC State shot a very solid 13-25 (.520) from the field in the first half en route to taking a 36-17 lead over the Demon Deacons (9-5, 0-1) at the halftime break. The Wolfpack held Wake Forest to a mere five points in the second quarter, the lowest total NC State has allowed in a single period all season.
"I thought we did a pretty good job defensively," NC State head coach Wes Moore said in his postgame radio interview with broadcaster Patrick Kinas. "We kept turnovers down; we weren't perfect, but much better (than in prior games). We won some important hustle areas: scoring off turnovers (31-14), second chance points (15-6), and we've got to do that in order to be successful."
Miah Spencer led all scorers with 17 points on 6-10 shooting from the field. She was joined in double figures by Dominique Wilson (11 points). Wake Forest was led offensively by Ariel Stephenson (14), Amber Campbell (13), and Ataijah Taylor (10).
