Junior Guards Hit Milestones in 63-52 Win Over Virginia
1/27/2016 10:16:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RALEIGH – On an evening which featured junior guards Dominique Wilson and Miah Spencer surpassing 1,000 career points, the NC State women's basketball team (15-6, 6-2 ACC) picked up its sixth win in seven games by defeating Virginia 63-52.
Spencer (1,007 career points after scoring 18 Wednesday) became just the 31st player in the 42-year history of the NC State women's program to cross the 1,000-point plateau. She is the first to do so since Myisha Goodwin-Coleman achieved the feat in a February 6, 2014 win over Wake Forest. Wilson (1,019 career points) has scored 801 points at NC State and 218 during her freshman season at Arkansas.
With Wilson's game-high 24 points (10-22 FG) during Wednesday's win, the redshirt junior guard has now scored 145 points during the last six games (24.1 per game).
Spencer and Wilson on scoring 1,000 career points:
Spencer: "Honestly, it's just a blessing. I know that the both of us have worked so hard to get to where we are. To come out and score 1,000 points and get a win, that's something which is very special and there is no doubt that we will remember this."
Wilson: "Like Miah said, this is a blessing and I'm very happy. But it doesn't stop here."
