Wolfpack opens the season with a 5-2 victory over East Carolina on Monday night

RALEIGH – The NC State women's tennis team opened its 2016 season with a #STATEMENT win over East Carolina. The Pack tallied a 5-2 victory over the Pirates on Monday night after its intended home opener against Winthrop and North Carolina A&T was cancelled on Saturday due to weather.
The Wolfpack began the dual with two strong doubles wins to earn the point. Bianca Moldovan and Joanna Nalborska quickly earned a 6-2 victory over Michelle Castro and Annija Veinsteina while duo Barbara Mancera and Amanda Rebol tabbed a 7-6 (7-1) win.
Martina Frantova and Tayla Stenta were crowed USTA Clay Court Invitational singles champions (in their respective brackets) in the final tournament of the fall season and continued their winning streaks on Monday night, both sweeping their first singles matches of the 2016 season. Frantova tabbed a quick start to the season with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Nicole LaDuca while Stenta netted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Maria Storozheva.
Women's tennis returns to action January 30 at when it takes on William & Mary at 11 a.m. and VCU later in the day at 5 p.m. in its first doubleheader of the season.
