Wolfpack Drops 92-90 Heartbreaker to No. 23 Louisville

RALEIGH – Twenty-five seconds away from picking up its second win over a top-25 team in a span of four days, the NC State women's basketball team (13-6, 4-2 ACC) dropped a heartbreaking loss to visiting No. 23 Louisville Sunday afternoon by a final score of 92-90.
Following two free throws by junior guard Dominique Wilson to cap off her career high of 31 points, the Wolfpack held a 90-85 lead with 25 seconds to play. A quick three-pointer by Louisville's Asia Durr (21 points) pulled the Cardinals (14-5, 6-0 ACC) within two points and a Wolfpack turnover and subsequent foul on the next possession allowed the visitors to tie the score. Mariya Moore (31 points) then hit the game-winning free throws with three seconds remaining and a Wilson 60-footer at the buzzer fell short.
"That's a tough pill to swallow, no doubt," NC State head coach Wes Moore said in his postgame radio interview with broadcaster Patrick Kinas. "That one will stick with you for a while. As a coach, there's always things which you think you should have done differently."
"It's a win. Now, am I pleased? No," said Cardinals coach Jeff Walz. "We got extremely lucky. In my opinion, we got out-played. NC State deserved to win that game, but unfortunately for them and fortunately for us, we had a few bounces at the end that went our way."
In addition to Wilson's co-game high of 31 points, Jennifer Mathurin chipped in 19 and Miah Spencer added 14. The Wolfpack shot a season-high 23-44 (.523) from the field, went 10-15 (.667) from three-point range, and hit 34 of 43 (.791) free throws.
Louisville's Moore (31), Durr (21), and Arica Carter (13) all scored in double figures as well. The Cardinals shot 32-63 (.508), 12-21 (.571) from distance, and 16-21 (.762) from the free-throw line.
