RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team (3-3-0) had a three-match winning streak halted on Sunday afternoon by visiting William & Mary, falling by a final score of 3-0.
Katie Johnston scored twice for the visitors, finding the back of the net in the 22nd and 71st minutes. Teammate Samantha Cordum scored William & Mary's (4-1-1) second goal of the afternoon in the 40th minute. The first goal for the Tribe—which has received votes in the national polls for the last two weeks—broke a Wolfpack shutout streak of 291 minutes. Prior to Sunday's match, the Wolfpack had earned three straight 2-0 decisions over Elon, East Tennessee State, and Oregon.
NC State recorded nine total shots in the match, seven of which came in the second half. Jackie Stengel and Dayna Tomayko each recorded two shots for the Pack, both of which were on target. The two combined for NC State's best scoring opportunity of the afternoon, as Stengel's shot and Tomayko's rebound attempt nearly halved the deficit in the 51st minute.
NC State will next be in action on Thursday, Sept. 10 when it hosts UNC Greensboro. Kickoff between the Wolfpack and Spartans is set for 7 p.m. at Dail Soccer Field.
