NC State men's soccer enjoyed goals from Julius Duchscherer and Yanni Hachem to improve to 5-1 on the season
No. 20 NC State men's soccer defeated Wofford 2-1 on Tuesday night at Dail Soccer Stadium behind goals from Julius Duchscherer and Yanni Hachem.
"Going in, we knew this would be a difficult match," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "We were coming off of an emotional win last Friday, and Wofford's a quality opponent. We knew they'd be ready for tonight and our guys did well to respond."
Duchscherer drew a foul in the Wofford (4-1-1) box during the 10th minute and took the ensuing penalty kick, depositing it for his second goal of the season. Hachem extended the lead to 2-0 in the 13th after a clearance attempt of the rebound from Holden Fender's header. Hachem delivered a brilliant strike to the right upper 90, scoring from 23 yards for his second goal of the year.
Wofford narrowed the Wolfpack (5-1) lead to 2-1 in the 74th minute on a penalty kick. The Pack defense tightened down the stretch to preserve the victory.
"I'm pleased with the performance ahead of our first conference road match," said Findley. "Proud of the guys for this great start, but our quality has to be there as we get focused on the next opportunity."
NC State returns to action on Friday at 7 PM, visiting Virginia. Live stats will be available on GoPack.com. Fans can follow along with Twitter updates via @PackMensSoccer.
