Pack Defeats Davidson in 2OT on Stengel’s Winner

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team (4-4-0) picked up an exciting road win on Sunday afternoon, winning 2-1 in double overtime at Davidson. Tied at 1-1 following the end of regulation, the Wolfpack earned the walk-off win in the 105th minute when Jackie Stengel beat Davidson goalkeeper Kendall Thomas following a Rachel Cox through ball.
NC State goalkeeper Mackenzie Stelljes had a very strong match, making 10 saves in the win.
The teams played to a scoreless first half despite combining for 14 total shots. State had the two best chances of the half, as Dayna Tomayko chipped one off the crossbar in the 10th minute and teammate Jenna Kalwa ripped a 20-yard attempt off the far post in the 11th minute. Stelljes was tested three times in the opening 45 minutes, finding herself equal to the task on each occasion.
NC State took a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute when Cailyn Boch scored the first goal of her career on assists from Tomayko and Crystal Cordova. The Wildcats (1-5-0) answered not long after, finding the back of the net on a driven shot from Alexa Landsberger in the 76th minute.
The Wolfpack claimed the win in the second overtime period when Stengel received a nice through ball from Rachel Cox and beat the goalkeeper in the 105th minute for her 12th career goal.
The Pack will play its final nonconference match of the season at Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, September 16. Kickoff between the Wolfpack and Chanticleers is set for 6 p.m.
