Volleyball Heads to New Orleans for Tulane Tournament

Wolfpack to participate in Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's volleyball team will return to action this weekend when it travels to the Bayou State to participate in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic. The tournament will be hosted by Tulane University and take place in New Orleans, La., inside Devlin Fieldhouse.
 
The Wolfpack (5-1) will open play against Nicholls State on Friday at 3 p.m. ET. On Saturday, NC State will take on host Tulane at 12:30 p.m. followed by Incarnate Word later that evening at 5:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
In its last outing of the season, NC State took down Delaware in straight sets, 3-0, to collect its fourth sweep of the year. The Wolfpack completed play in the Hilton Garden Inn Cary Classic with a 2-1 record after defeating Jacksonville and coming up short against Ole' Miss.
 
Leading The Way
After the first two weeks of play, the Wolfpack leads the ACC in service aces per set (2.29) and total service aces (48). NC State's aces per set average also ranks fifth in the NCAA. In addition, the Pack leads the conference in opponent hitting percentage as they have been held to a measly .110 clip.
 
The Wolfpack's blocks per set average (2.50) is good for fifth in the conference.
 
Individually, senior Morgan Cormier ranks fourth in the nation and second in the ACC in aces per set with .70. She is tied for the conference lead in total aces with 18 on the year. Sophomore Kaitlyn Kearney has collected 31 blocks to tie for second in the ACC in that category. She also averages 1.48 blocks per set, which is second in the league.
 
Hranicka Garners First All-Tournament Mention
Freshman Blayke Hranicka enjoyed playing at home for the first time in her Wolfpack career, as she turned in a couple of stellar performances to earn all-tournament team honors. The Denver, Colo., native tallied 18 kills for the weekend to go along with eight blocks and six service aces.
 
Scouting Nicholls State
The Nicholls State Colonels enter the weekend with a 3-3 record on the season, following a 1-2 performance at a tournament hosted by Louisiana. In its most recent outing, the Colonels swept Jackson State, 3-0.
 
Friday's meeting will be the first between the programs.
 
Junior Kayla Mashburn leads the team offensively with 95 kills, an average of 3.96 kills per set. As a team, Nicholls State has a .191 attacking percentage and opponents have a .186 clip. Defensively, sophomore Stephanie Tobison paces the squad with 2.96 digs per set. At the setter position, senior Alyse Barclay has handed out 5.96 assists per set.
 
Scouting Tulane
Tulane owns a 1-3 record to this point in the season and will be playing on its home court for the first time in 2015 this weekend. The Green Wave dropped their most recent contest to UTSA, 3-0.
 
NC State and Tulane have never met in volleyball.
 
Offensively, Tea Juric and Sara Ray lead the team with 3.54 and 3.31 kills per set, respectively. Ally Frank is the team's setter and she has dished out 10.92 assists per set for a total of 142. Defensively, Lisa Mordell has collected 52 digs or 4.00 digs per set.
 
As a team, the Green Wave are hitting .195 while opponents have compiled a .243 attacking percentage.
 
Scouting Incarnate Word
The Incarnate Word Cardinals have a 2-4 record heading into this weekend's tournament. In their last outing, the Cardinals defeated Southern University in straight sets, 3-0.
 
Saturday's contest will be the first meeting between NC State and Incarnate Word.
 
Shaina Garza leads Incarnate Word offensively with 49 kills, while Sarea Alexander has put down 41 kills. At the setter position, Taylor McClelland has registered 104 assists, an average of 5.47 per set. Claudia Hernandez paces the squad in digs with 4.10 per set.
 
The Cardinals have a team attacking percentage of .147, while opponents have an average of .200.
