No. 23 Wolfpack men's soccer opens its home ACC schedule on Friday, September 11 at 7 PM, hosting Boston College. As NC State suits up for the next phase of the regular season, a look back at the season to this point.
- Walk-Off PK Tops Furman in Opener
Following three preseason matches, the Pack stormed to a 2-1 (OT) road win in Charleston, a season-opening win over an experienced Furman squad fresh off an NCAA Tournament second round appearance. Cameron Steele scored his first collegiate goal on a corner from Julius Duchscherer. Zach Knudson provided the game-winning PK on a foul drawn by Yanni Hachem.
- Pack Defense Stands Firm
A weather delay Sunday forced the Wolfpack to host College of Charleston on Monday, August 31. Duchscherer scored the first goal of his career. State won the relocated match 2-0 behind the seventh shutout of Alex McCauley's career. That theme would continue in the Pack's follow-up, a 2-0 shutout at Liberty, extending NC State's season-opening win streak to three matches.Â
- State Enters National Rankings
Last Monday at Davidson, the unbeaten streak came to an end. After the Wildcats built a 2-0 lead through the first 72 minutes, NC State responded with Knudson's second goal of the year. A furious comeback attempt late couldn't find the equalizer. On Tuesday, the Pack entered TopDrawerSoccer's Top 25 for the first time since 2012, checking in at No. 23.Â
Now 3-1 and eyeing the Atlantic Coast Conference slate, #PackFooty finds itself on track for its much sought-after NCAA Tournament bid. Always a pivotal match on the schedule, NC State sits 3-3-1 against Boston College since 2009. The good news for the road warrior Pack is that after traveling for three of its first four, three of its next four matches will take place at Dail Soccer Stadium, including dates with Wofford on 9/15 and Gardner-Webb on 9/22.Â
