Moldovan will join the women’s tennis program in August
RALEIGH, N.C.- Recently, GoPack.com had the opportunity to catch up with Bianca Moldovan, who will join the NC State women' tennis program this fall, to get to know more about who she is.
Â
A Livonia, Mich., native, she is the highest-ranked American prospect and as well as the first American blue chip recruit to sign with the Wolfpack. The blue chip designation is given to the premier recruits in a class, usually around 25-30 prospects.
Â
Moldovan currently ranks 24th among the 2015 class in the national polls and has climbed as high as sixth in the rankings during her career. Moldovan also ranks third in the Great Lakes region and first in the state of Michigan in her class.
Â
Why she chose NC State: "I chose NC State because I believe the tennis program can, and will be, a highly ranked program where I will improve to the best of my ability with the help of Coach Simon and Gina. I really made a connection with them and believe that they have a lot to teach me.
"Going into college, I want a great education and somewhere where I will be able to improve significantly on the tennis court, and I believe NC State is the perfect place for me."
What she's most excited for about college: "Getting a great education, getting an opportunity to improve my tennis skills and meeting new people."
Â
An athlete she idolized growing up: Serena Williams
Â
Her preference between singles and doubles play: "I like both, but if I had to pick it would be singles. I like being alone on the court and having to figure out ways to win on my own."
Â
How she got into playing tennis: "I started playing tennis when I was eight-years-old in Piatra Neamt, Romania. My mom had always wanted to be a tennis player when she was young, but due to the fact that she lived in communism she did not have the opportunity.
Â
"She decided that her child would play tennis if they wanted to and so she took me to the best club in town and asked for tennis lessons. Soon I was traveling all over Romania to play tournaments and when it was time, I moved to America to pursue my dream to become world class tennis player."
Â
Her favorite thing about the sport: "Tennis is a major mental sport. It makes you think nonstop."
Â
Her goals and aspirations at NC State on and off the court: "I want to get a great education, particularly in the entrepreneurship field, help my team become a top-10 nationally ranked program, improve to the best of my ability on the tennis court and personally become a top player in the nation.
Â
Her favorite place to visit: Piatra Neamt, Romania
