Frantova joins NC State after two years at Mississippi State

Â
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The NC State women's tennis team has bolstered its recruiting class with the addition of Mississippi State transfer Martina Frantova. She joins head coach Simon Earnshaw's initial class, which was recently ranked ninth in the nation by tennisrecruiting.net. She will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"One important area that we haven't been able to address with our recruiting class up until this point was having someone that already understands what it takes to be successful in college and that can be an example with work ethic, focus, intensity and goals," Earnshaw said.
"Martina's experience is the perfect fit in this regard; her goals are exactly aligned with those we have for the program moving forward. She is looking to be in an environment where she has the best opportunity to be successful and get the most out of her game. She understands completely what is and isn't acceptable to be able to provide for that culture.
"I expect Martina to take on a leadership role with her outgoing personality and be a great example for what it is to be an NC State student-athlete. I feel fortunate that she has chosen to continue her career with the Wolfpack and look forward to her joining us in August."
Frantova's addition marks the fifth signee of the year. The Bratislava, Slovakia, native joins Mexican international Barbara Mancera, blue-chip recruit Bianca Moldovan and five-star recruits Amanda Rebol and Claudia Wiktorin in the class of 2019, which is regarded as the Wolfpack's best recruiting class in program history.
During her time at Mississippi State, Frantova was a major contributor on the Bulldogs' 2014-15 campaign, which made it to the second-round of the NCAA Championships.
Frantova earned a 13-11 singles record and a 14-12 doubles record during the year. She played between spots two through four in the singles lineup, seeing the most action at the No. 3 spot, and exclusively at the No. 1 doubles spot, where she had ranked wins over doubles teams from LSU and South Carolina. Her results helped her achieve a final ITA national ranking of 52nd in doubles, as well as ITA Southern Regional rankings of 17th in singles and 4th in doubles.
In addition to her play at Mississippi State, Frantova has made an impact on an international level. She has a combined 80 singles and doubles wins from ITF circuit events, and holds career-high WTA rankings of 837 (singles) and 694 (doubles). In 2013, she reached the quarterfinals of six ITF tennis tournaments.
"I chose NC State because it is a great academic school and the women's tennis program has the exact attitude and hard work ethic that I was looking for in a program," Frantova said. "When I came to visit, I instantly connected with the coaches, and as soon as I walked on campus I knew this was the place to be. I am very excited to be a part of the Wolfpack."
