EUGENE, Ore. --Jonathan Addison earned first-team All-America honors, and Graham Crawford qualified for the finals of the 1,500m, as the NC State track and field team opened the NCAA Championships with a strong start.
After six events, the men's team sits in 17th place with five points.
1,500m:
Graham Crawford began the meet for the Wolfpack with a strong start. He took fourth overall, crossing the finish line in 3:40.91. Crawford's time was 0.36 seconds shy of his PR, and qualified him for Saturday's final.
In typical Crawford style, the Burlington, N.C., native ran most of the race near the back. However, a quick move to the outside lanes helped him blow by the majority of his heat in the final 50m.
Crawford will race in the finals as he aims to secure points for the men's team and conclude his season as an All-American.
Long Jump:
Addison soared to a new lifetime best mark in the long jump, as he took fourth overall and earned first-team All-America honors with a mark of 26'2.75" (7.99m). The Raleigh, N.C., native has earned All-America honors in three consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships.
His mark now ranks second in school history, as he continues to soar to new heights. In his last two NCAA Championships, the junior earned second-team All-American honors, but missed out on scoring points for the team.
With his finish, the Raleigh, N.C., native has picked up five points for the team, which are already the most points at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for an NC State men's track and field team since 2012. With two more athletes on the men's team left to compete, the team could earn one of the highest point totals in program history.
Addison concludes NCAA competition with first-team All-America honors, two NCAA East Preliminary qualifications, two ACC silver medals, two first-team All-ACC honors, one second-team All-ACC honor and a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Team. With several awards yet to be announced, Addison could add more accolades to his outstanding season.
