State Dominates First Day of Wolfpack Spring Open

RALEIGH -- The NC State men's golf team dominated the first day of the 2015 Wolfpack Spring Open on Saturday afternoon. Following one time through the Wolfpack's on-campus Lonnie Poole Golf Course, NC State is atop the leaderboard with a score of 276 (-8).
Led by a James Chapman 65 (-6) which matched his career low round, NC State golfers recorded the top three scores at the tournament. Playing as an individual, Carter Simon finished second with a 66 (-5) and David Cooke ended in third with a 68 (-3).

NC State's starting five golfers combined for 21 birdies on Saturday. James Chapman led all Wolfpackers with seven while Cooke and Jacob McBride also pitched in with five apiece.
Four Score
NC State recorded the best team score on par four holes during the first round of the tournament, ending up as the only team at 4.00 strokes per hole or fewer. Cooke (3.56 strokes per par four), McBride (3.78), Chapman (3.78), and Simon (3.89) all averaged fewer than four strokes per par four.

The second day of the Wolfpack Spring Open is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Sunday in a shotgun format in the hopes of avoiding forecasted rain.
