MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The NC State men's golf team won the Michael A. Marino Classic on Tuesday, besting 15 other teams in the event held at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
NC State shot under par as a team in every round, the only team in the event to accomplish that, as the Pack finished four shots ahead of second place Louisville.
The Pack entered Tuesday morning tied for first place with the Cardinals at 12-under par, but NC State was at its best in the clutch moments as it had the best team score of the final round, shooting three-under par.
Xander Goboy and Pearce Lewin led NC State as both players shot under par in all three rounds to post top-10 finishes.
Goboy finished in a tie for fourth place after posting rounds of 70-67-71 to finish eight under par.
Lewin was one shot back of Goboy in sixth place after finishing with a scorecard of 69-70-70.
Rylan Shim shot a four-under par 68 in the second round and finished the tournament in a tie for 26th place.
Markus Varjun was at his best in the third round on Tuesday, shooting a two-under par 70 to finish in a tie for 30th place.
Joey Lenane rounded out the NC State lineup in a tie for 52nd place.
