RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State will be well represented on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the USATF Cross Country Championships in Boulder, Colo. Mary Grace Doggett, Rachel Koon and Patrick Sheehan will compete to earn a spot on the USA Junior National Team.
The top six competitors in each junior race earn a spot on Team USA and compete in Guiyang, China at the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships later this year.
The event includes races ranging from the professional level to high school competitions. All races will be run at Flatirons Golf Course. Doggett and Koon are competing in the women’s junior 6k race, while Sheehan is competing in the men’s junior 8k race.
Doggett competed for Team USA in January at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country Challenge. The Raleigh, N.C., native finished just short of a top-10 mark. Team USA was victorious in the challenge over Team Great Britain and Team Europe, snatching up first-place honors in the junior men, junior women and senior men’s races.
Sheehan competed in the 3000m for the NC State track team this season, finishing 8th at the Hilton Garden Invitational.
Koon recently competed unattached at the Hilton Garden Invitational with the NC State track team earlier this season and placed 6th in the 3000m.
